Thailand has long been a popular tourist destination, and Pattaya, in particular, has become a hub for gay travellers. While Bangkok and Phuket offer gay visitors great experiences, Pattaya is the place to be in 2023. The post-covid rise of Jomtien Complex Supertown has been great for the city.
Before the pandemics decimation of Pattaya, there were still the 3 main gay areas on the city. The long standing area of BoyzTown, located in central Pattaya. The infamous Sunee Plaza in South Pattaya and Jomtien Complex Supertown located in Jomtien.
While still hanging on, BoyzTown boasts a handful of gay bars and hotels. Although not often busy, still frequented by expats and visitors. It can certainly be a more quiet evening than the madness of other areas in the city.
Unfortunately, Sunee Plaza was destroyed by the pandemic and will likely never rise again. With the famous Double Shot bar relocating to Jomtien Complex Supertown, the rest of the bars closed one by one. There are now only 2 bars open, with very few customers.
While it is sad to see the decline of these legacy gay areas of the city, it’s not all bad news. While 7 years ago it was nothing more than a handful of small open air beer bars, Jomtien Complex Supertown has grown. It is now the dominant gay area in Pattaya, and the whole of Thailand.
The rise of Jomtien Complex Supertown
The complex now hosts 29 gay bars, many restaurants, massage shops, hotels and guest houses all contained in this one large complex area. It truly is a mecca for any gay visitors. A few minutes walk and you can find yourself on the famous Dong Tan gay beach. The greater Jomtien area which is unique and popular with foreigners and Thai people offers many things to see and do, eat and buy.
Every night of the week the complex is packed with people. Whatever you are looking for on a night out, there will be a bar here to suit your needs. If it’s your first visit, we recommend staying at Zing Resort & Spa, head for an afternoon foot massage at Burirom Massage followed by dinner at Krua Nong Nong watching the world pass by. As for after dinner drinks, head to 69 Bar and get a feel for the area. If cabaret is your thing, we highly recommend M2M Bar & Cabaret.
